ACOUSTIC GATHERING VI

Acoustic Gathering VI, The free one-day music festival, will take place on Sunday 11th September, at Peasholm Park, North Bay, Scarborough, and 80s legends Red Box will headline the event.

Red Box are a British pop group first active from the early 1980s to the early 1990s, founded by Simon Toulson-Clarke and Julian Close. They scored two huge global hits with the ultimate feel-good anthem "Lean on Me (ah-li-ayo)" in 1985 and "For America" in 1986, both of which were included on their debut album The Circle & the Square. Red Box returned briefly in 1990 with the single "Train" and second album Motive and again with third album Plenty released in October 2010.

On this consecutive 6th year the music kicks off at midday & runs non-stop till 10.30pm, and once more brings together an incredible 32 acts in total. The fine musicians of this town are all set to showcase their dazzling talent once more, with Edwina Hayes, Jesse Hutchinson & Ishka to name but a few, the full list of acts will be announced soon.

The 5 minute turnaround between each act will be filled by a UNISON sponsored breakthrough artist, a feature introduced last year with some amazing results, the stars that have shone the brightest since will be promoted to a full set, the rest will be hand picked from open mic nights & the local music scene by the festival organisers. They will be given the chance to perform one song to showcase their talent on the lakebound stage. This will run till 5pm.

The Community Market will return for a 2nd year & will still be located on the putting green, it will be a vibrant colourful space with family entertainment and activities. The Market will also have several information stalls hosted by many different community groups with details of what they do and how you can get involved.
The Thriving Community market will be running from 11.30am until 6pm, although food stalls will run into the night.

As usual there will be the official Acoustic Gathering merchandise stall up by the cafe, offering the new festival shirts, programmes, other goodies & running side by side with new addition the long awaited Mojos Ministry of Soup, which will serve hot & tasty soups all day & into the night. Tangipans kitchen will be back with their scrummy veggie/vegan curries & chillies, as will the ever-popular Crepe Company, with mouth watering savoury & sweet Parisian style Crepes. The Parks Cafe will be open with an added bar facility to keep the drinks flowing into the night.

This year an extra effort is to be made to keep the park clean & tidy with more recycling & refuse bins around the site & black sacks handed out to encourage revellers to collect up their own waste.

Organiser Steve Dickinson said "Red Box were having hits when I was 15 and now they are coming to Scarborough to headline Acoustic Gathering, they have a new album out which is a great record, the whole town should turnout for this one! It's also fantastic to welcome back Edwina Hayes who performed back in 2008 & caused quite a stir when she appeared for autographs up at the merchandise stall, and as usual the local talent on the bill is outstanding. With the UNISON break-though artists making the number of acts up to a staggering 32 in ten & a half hours, it will be a great day for the musicians & music lovers of Scarborough"
