Coastival unveils news of one-day spectacular

Plans are at an early stage but the event, titled Coastival's Rather Spendid Day Out, will feature music, theatre, exhibitions, comedy and activities for children and young people.

It will be held on 11th February next year.

If Coastival fans can't wait that long, they can get along to a Coastival music event entitled Coastival ... Get Some! at Bacchus nightclub in Scarborough on 26th November.

Coastival is establishing itself as a major local organiser of new, innovative and exciting arts events on the Yorkshire coast. It has so far held two successful arts weekend and a host of one-off events.

Organiser Wendy Clews said: "We are very excited about Coastival's Rather Splendid Day Out next February as it promises to be a real fun day for Scarborough.

"We plan to pack a lot into the one day and there will be something for everyone - so put the date in your diary today.

"In the meantime, music lovers have the Bacchus event to look forward to on 26th November."

DJs Tooley and John Mitchell will be joined by special guests Kista (Unique Records), Daddy J (Aerosolik Army) and Guest DJ Mick Cloudbase (Cloudbase Collective). Music will include soul and funk 45s, old school hip hop, ska and reggae, Latin jazz, vintage R&B, Northern Soul and Motown.

The music starts at 9pm at the Ramshill Road club and will continue until 3am. The event is free but strictly first come first served.

The second Coastival arts weekend festival was held in February and doubled its attendance numbers compared with the first event, in 2009.

Attendances at events over the three days in February were 19,851 - which is 120% greater than the first Coastival. It featured 120 events in 30 venues, including music, comedy, theatre, arts, performance and activities for children.
