Urban Soul Orchestra - Spicing up the events industry

In an industry reliant on innovation, charisma and talent, during an economic climate where only the best make the cut, Urban Soul Orchestra (USO) remains ahead of the game.

An orchestra that not only stays firmly rooted in the classical but also performs the latest chart hits and dance music.

USO founder Stephen Hussey began his professional career with the Reggae Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO), arranging and co-arranging the strings for artists such as Soul II Soul, Gabrielle and Maxi Priest. As Stephen explains; "RPO exploded the limitations of a string based orchestral sound by partnering it with the skanking drive of reggae." Soon afterwards Stephen went on to found USO, which became the session orchestra of choice for an extensive range of international artists and composers including Groove Amada, Nightmares on Wax, Keane and The Script.

Identifying the need within the event industry for a diverse and multi-functional classical group that could also keep abreast of current musical trends, USO expanded its portfolio to include corporate events, private parties and weddings.

USO provides a range of musical styles that can be performed at various stages of an event. For background music during the beginning of the night, this includes a Chill Out Set (string quartet & backing tracks) for drinks reception and 6-piece Acoustic Ensemble (quartet with percussion & bass) for during dinner. As the stars come out, so do the 7-piece "Little" Big Band (featuring quartet with vocalists and backing tracks) to get the party started, and DJ Set to continue the dancing deep into the night.

This medley of musical styles and techniques is reflected by USO's musicians. The string players are all classically trained and also have impressive careers working with todays top contemporary artists. Originating from far-flung destinations around the globe, they bring a stylish and exciting mix to an event.

USO combines the class of strings mixed with jazzy horns, funky percussion and phat modern beats in one exciting genre-defying orchestra that will take you from your first sip of champagne to your final shimmy on the dance floor.
