Wombles Give Wimbledon a Miss and Head to Glasto
Yesterday, the Wombles were greeted with thousands of fans at Glastonbury, many of which were boasting miniature, furry replicas of their favourite TV characters.Following a damning statement by Michael Eavis that signing the band was a "big mistake", Brits rallied behind the childhood treasures by snapping up Wombles memorabilia.
Past Times, the gift specialist retailer, reports a +50% upswing in sales of miniature versions of The Wombles, with Orinoco emerging as the clear winner with a rise of +65%.
Penny Tunnell, Product Director at Past Times, says, "The Wombles have experienced somewhat of a rebirth over the past couple weeks, following Michael Eavis's comments which seemed to incite the nation. The characters are a childhood staple and it was fantastic to see festival goers brandish their Wombles in pride at Glastonbury."
